A few items have been brought to our attention via the forum pages.
Concern: - The Lake is weedy and unfishable
The lake was in fact inundated weed in the summer of 2007 between June and mid August leaving only approx 30% of the lake fishable. The lake was closed for two weeks and 140 tonnes of weed were removed by hand (I have a ruined back to prove it) and the lake was re-opened and normal fishing was resumed. All anglers whose fishing suffered as a result of the short period the lake was weedy were compensated where applicable.
Having learned an important lesson the lake was weed treated in the spring of 2008 and the weed has not reappeared. The lake will be treated accordingly every spring from now on.
Concern: - The fishing is not as easy as it used to be.
Seriously! The lake is full of big fish that has been fished for nearly 7 seasons. What do you expect? If you want lots of action you need to go to a runs water. Please remember you are paying for the chance to catch a fish of a lifetime not a guarantee to catch fish.
Concern: - Why does the grass have to be cut when we are fishing?
The lake has to be maintained. Throughout the season the grass is cut and strimmed every week. We only have 3 hours on a Saturday morning when the lake is empty, it is not possible to clean all the toilets and facilities, empty the bins and cut the grass. We do however endeavor to cause the minimum disruption possible. The good news is that we have been doing this for the last 8 years so the fish are very used to it.
Concern: - The water level drops in August / September, does this affect the fishing?
The lake is fed by the water table, in the summer months, due to the high levels of water extraction, the lake can lose up to 1000mm of water. Again this has happened to the lake since it was excavated. Since we have owned the lake no noticeable problems have been noted during this period (at its lowest level at the end of August over 30 fish per week were caught topped by the long common @72lb).
Concern: - People come and walk around the lake.
This happens infrequently, when people do come to the lake they are usually friends of the owners and know how to conduct themselves or people invited to view the lake in regard to future bookings. Once again we endeavor to cause the minimum disruption possible.
Concern: - When we book the lake exclusively do we get the lake to ourselves?
Exclusive bookings mean that the FISHING is reserved for the group. The lake remains a working lake with access permitted to anglers using our sister venue. The owner and his on site representative reserves the right to fish at any time.
Concern: - Why can’t we still fish with four rods when we exclusively book the lake?
In order to simplify the rules only 3 rods will be allowed no matter what type of booking is made.
